ABOUT ALISON LAM
Alison Lam is a British-Chinese, neurodivergent interdisciplinary artist based in London. Working across porcelain, metal, glass and paper, she makes sculpture and installations that explore communication, relationships and belonging. She often works with participants, using conversation and shared making as part of her process. She describes this way of working as "drawing with her hands", where materials become a way to think through ideas that are difficult to express in words. Influenced by her experience as a mother to two autistic sons, her work reflects on how emotions, relationships and overlooked gestures can be translated into material forms.
Based in London, Lam's recent solo exhibitions include Mind the Gap (SEESAW Space, Westminster Reference Library and Museum of the Home, 2025), This Is Where I Leave You (StudioKIND, 2024) and Conversation Starters: Suspended in Time (Espacio Gallery, 2023). Her work has been supported by Arts Council England through the DYCP and National Lottery Project Grants grants. She has delivered workshops and talks with organisations including the British Library, October Gallery, the University of Brighton, Middlesex University and MASS Art School.
