Established in 2014 as the venue for Ernest Zacharevic's solo exhibition 'Art is Rubbish is Art,' Hin Bus Depot Gallery remains a creative hub for artists from around the world.
This installation art by Tan Lay Heong aims to convey a powerful message about environmental degradation due to human actions, through sarcasm. Should human beings continue to invade nature through their enormous consumption, they will soon find the Mother Earth disappearing into their endless greed.

In the exhibition “Between The Lines”, Lithuanian-born artist Trexus finds his influence from his current residence in the heart of George Town, Penang. Through his works, Trexus wishes to bring focus on how thin the line can be between concepts like normal and acceptable, between too much and too much to care, between culture and being cultured. The audience is introduced to these concepts through a wide range of line-based artworks including large and small scale paintings and more.

Pe’el [ pe/.el ] is a Malay word that means habit or behaviour. It is rooted from the Arabic word “Fe-el”, which bears a similar meaning.
The Pe’el exhibition showcases artworks that depict life in Malaysian villages and towns during the 1950s and 60s, highlighting the commonalities in daily behavior and social activities in these contrasting residential areas. The artworks portray scenes of trading, food and beverages, entertainment, and social gatherings, with characters from various races and walks of life interacting. The landscapes from that era feature wooden houses in villages and post-Colonial shophouses, symbolizing the era of "Independence" and reflecting the socio-political landscape of the time. This exhibition, supported by Vans, underscores the harmony and stability in economy, politics, and society during that period, making it a stark contrast to contemporary Malaysia, where many societal values have been overlooked.

The phrase "thinking outside the box" refers to unconventional thinking, inspired by the 'nine dots' brain teaser from the 70s. BOXED IN (one foot at a time) gathers diverse Penang-based visual artists who were given two 12" x 12" wooden boxes to let their creative imaginations flow while staying within the box. This project, initiated before the global pandemic, evolved to reflect the new normal of isolation. The exhibition unfolds in stages: an online display throughout December 2020, followed by a physical exhibition that intentionally leaves some gallery spaces empty, symbolizing artists who withdrew due to the pandemic. Expect an exciting and mysterious presentation of their creations. Participating artists include Aboud Fares, Bibichun, Carey Junior, ERYN, Esther Geh, Fuan Wong, Hungry Goat, Jakob Zuyten, Jonathan Yun, Jose Ilao, Lijynn, Lusy, Maizul Affendy, MAMA, Marianne Klerk, Mawar, Nasir Nadzir, Rebecca Wilkinson, sumidik, Thomas Powell, Tiffany Choong, Tina Lee Degreef, Tommes, Vatsn, White Bones.
