A WET is an experimental curatorial platform by Haunt enacting exhibitions and performances in decentralized spaces across the globe. They develop shows in offsite, nonstandard locations as well as in partner galleries and venues, creating an exchange between eccentric local experiences and standardized aesthetic presentations.
This group show enacts a speculative fiction set in the not-so-distant future, long after the demise of human beings, visually modelled after local wet markets. They imagine the non-human narratives that emerge between decaying commodities, homeless machine intelligences, the ghosts of dead colonial ideologies and the earth which reclaims them all. Works of art including sculpture, paintings, assemblage and new media create an atmosphere that encourages the decomposition of established sign systems and narratives.
As part of our ongoing project, 14 artists from diverse places around the world gather together between the virtual and the real to build objects, experiences, and kinship in Malaysia. Following a series of interventions in an actual Pasar Pagi in Petaling Jaya facilitated by Gemi YY and Ray Tat, we are pleased to present an artist's talk and group show at Hin Bus Depot.
Come drink flower tea, enjoy the works and some special presentations: -The Practise of Everyday Afterlife -4 Elements for Spiritual Vandalism: Omsk Social Club (interactive performance) -Mother Earth in Paris: Pinar & Viola (a virtual reality artist talk) -Fashion/accessories by BRUX & Hyperseas -Sounds by Yummy Mummy -Curatorial Q&A
