About Golden Moment Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get. Well, the flea market that used to take place in George Town’s Armenian Park every evening was Ono’s box of chocolate, and he enjoyed every bite of it.
At that time, Ono was still operating a tattoo shop in a nearby mall. Collecting antiques and antics was just a hobby to him. Yet every evening while the market was just setting up, he would eagerly close shop and rush over hoping that if he is the early bird, he might just catch a big worm that day. It was then he started collecting seriously, training his eye to spot real treasures. Eventually, Ono became George Town’s go-to antique broker however the flea market has been shut down by local authorities as it was deemed unfit for George Town’s picturesque touristic impression.
Contrary to its unfavourable reputation with the local authorities, Ono claims to feel the most peaceful and at home in the market, in the place where damaged and unwanted goods are given a second chance at life. It teaches Ono to just be present and enjoy the golden moment.
The Metal (Gold) Element The Metal Element is the second addition to the Five Element series of sculptures. The Metal Element is written as Gold in the mandarin character – 金. Therefore it is also sometimes known as the Gold Element.
What is gold? To Ono, time is gold and you have to spend your time the way you spend your gold – wise and well. Holding back is not the key to live. Being able to touch, to own the things that you love is nothing short of wonderful. As long as you are living your life to the fullest, being present in every moment – THAT, is gold.
The Five Elements (Wu Xing) Metal generates water; water nourishes wood; wood feeds fire; fire creates earth; earth bears metal. In Chinese philosophy, the five elements are regarded as the foundation of everything in the universe and natural phenomena. Each element represents its own set of characters and together, they define the way the world functions. Ono’s current series of sculpture is inspired by the five elements. He will create an artwork for each element, based on his interpretation of what they represent.
